Paul Pogba, who currently plays for Manchester United, has stated that he is struggling to focus after France won the World Cup in Russia, but insisted that he can still successfully lead the squad despite the fact that he has been released from vice-captaincy duties.
Paul Pogba has reportedly had a fallout with Jose Mourinho, the Manchester United football manager, on several occasions during the season which coincided with an extremely slow start for Manchester United this season who are currently eighth in Premier League standings with 13 points which is 7 points behind leaders Manchester City.
Pogba, the former Juventus midfielder, has managed to score twice this season and provided two assists in 8 top-flight meetings. He recently stated that he finds it extremely difficult to motivate himself after winning the biggest trophy of them all during the World Cup in Russia.
“It’s difficult to concentrate or to start again and hit hard in the Premier League after we managed to touch the stars,” Paul Pogba stated in a recent interview. “It was undoubtedly the ultimate trophy you can win when it comes to football. But I still have other challenges too. For instance, I have never managed to win the Premier League and its certainly an objective that I would like to accomplish.”
Pogba Released from Vice-Captaincy Duties
Jose Mourinho has recently revealed that Pogba will no longer be considered for vice-captaincy for the Manchester United squad despite the fact that he already managed to wear the captain armband a total of 3 times this season while Antonio Valencia is currently absent.
Before the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Pogba stated his interest in stepping up his role when it comes to the France squad. Most of his team members state that he gave several inspirational speeches during the summer triumph of Les Bleus.
Hugo Lloris was the one who lifted the trophy during the 2018 World Cup as captain of Didier Deschamps, and Pogba stated that he will continue to be an influential figure in the team even if they don’t replace the sensational goalkeeper for Tottenham Hotspur.
“I don’t play for France to be the captain of the team, just being in the team is a huge honour for me” Pogba stated. “There’s no need to be captain if you want to speak. A leader is not someone that wears an armband during a match. It’s the team that places you in that position, who gives you the freedom to express yourself.”
Ballon d’Or Nominees
Although Pogba is currently struggling at Man Utd, he was one of 6 players from the France squad that was included on the list of 30 players to receive the Ballon d’Or award. Lionel Messi and Christiano Ronaldo have each claimed the award five times in the last decade, and Zinedine Zidane was the last French player to receive the award. Pogba also hopes that the second star on their jerseys will provide enough motivation to claim it again in the near future.
